We are currently accepting applications for technicians at both the junior and senior level.  The minimum qualifications are:

  • Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in biology, chemistry, or a closely related discipline
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Enjoy interacting with other people, and respectful of colleagues
  • At least some lab experience within the past ~3 years (e.g., undergraduate research or course work, or work experience in lab environment)

Candidates for junior positions will be considered even with minimal relevant experience, but they must be motivated to learn and master some of the techniques in the areas list below.  However, for more senior positions, strong candidates are expected to have experience in one or more of the follow areas, but will also have the opportunity develop additional skills on the job:

  • Molecular biology (including techniques such as PCR, nucleic acid purification, cloning, DNA electrophoresis, transformation)
  • Cell culture (including growth of mammalian and insect cell lines, cell freezing, transfection, cell counting with a hemocytometer, baculovirus amplification, protein expression)
  • Bacterial genetics (including P1 transduction and transformation for strain construction, recombineering, mutagenesis, genetic screening and mapping, good aseptic technique)
  • Protein expression and purification (including recombinant protein expression in E. coli, yeast, baculovirus, or mammalian systems; cell lysis; centrifugation; protein chromatography using FPLC systems such as AKTA; protein electrophoresis; Western blotting; protein concentration)
  • Protein biophysical methods (including methods to detect protein-protein interactions, such as Biacore/SPR, Octet/Biolayer Interferometry, ITC, or analytical ultracentrifugation; light scattering; fluorescence polarization anisotropy; thermal stability/denaturation assays such as Thermofluor or CD melting curves)
  • Structural biology (including setup of crystal screens; use of liquid handling robots such as Mosquito; crystal harvesting; collection of diffraction data; structure solution and refinement; preparation of grids for electron microscopy; use of electron microscopes; single particle EM data collection and data analysis)

To apply for a position, email the following to damian.ekiert@nyumc.org:

  1. A brief cover letter/email describing your relevant experience, and your professional or educational goals
  2. A copy of your resume
  3. Contact information for 3 references

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until the position has been filled.
